Which format should you convert to?
JPG when the file needs to open everywhere — email attachments, web forms, print services, older software. It is the universal option, and it has no transparency.
PNG when you need transparency preserved, or when the image is about to be edited and you want to stop lossy compression from compounding. Expect large files for photographs.
WebP when the destination is a website. It is 25–30% smaller than JPEG at matched quality, keeps transparency like PNG, and is supported by every current browser.
PDF when a document has to arrive as one file — applications, claims, submissions.
